Light beams, especially lasers, provide an excellent method for carrying audio intelligence. The light beam can be visible or invisible. They can carry conversations for long distances with most manufacturers claiming a range of several kilometers. And, importantly, modulated light attacks are often not considered by individuals performing countermeasures checks. This can be a fatal oversight from a security standpoint. This unit contains circuitry which allows the user to search for sources of laser transmissions.
Light beams carrying room audio can be very narrow. They can shoot through windows and reflect off glass, metallic, or other bright surfaces. This can be readily demonstrated with the TV remote control device (IR). Try pointing it at different surfaces around the room and notice how the TV can be controlled by reflections from some unusual places. Narrow light beams are very directional (line of sight); a point you should keep in mind.
With its bandwidth of 1 MHz to 2500 MHz and its extra sensitive circuitry, it will pick up signals that other detectors may miss. It is designed to pick up subminiature radio transmitters wherever they are located – in your home, office or car.
Using the SENSITIVITY control and meter readings, you can quickly zero in on hidden RF transmitters. Also use it to check your telephone and its associated wiring for RF bugs and taps.
Weighing only 8 oz., it is furnished in a high-impact case that measures 5.3″ x 3.3″ x 1.5″. The telescoping whip antenna can be extended 33″. The unit comes complete with 9 volt battery, antenna and instructions.
The word laser started as an acronym for “light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation“; in modern usage “light” broadly denotes electromagnetic radiation of any frequency, not only visible light, hence infrared laser, ultraviolet laser, X-ray laser, and so on.
